Coloring Carnations

White carnations dye very easy with food coloring.  We used 1/2 of a .25 oz. food coloring bottle per jar or bottle of WARM water (you want the concentration of dye to water to be pretty high).  I also learned from my florist that unhydrated carnations work best - you can specifically ask for these from a florist (they get shipped from South America that way).  Cut at least 1" off the stem before putting them in the dye.  Depending on the concentration of the dye, it can take up to 24 hours.
