I just wanted to share the FABULOUS news about how many cookies we sold for presales...  drum roll please....  1637 !  That is 89 boxes more than the total number we sold last year (including booth sales) and we have fewer girls selling.  You are all A-W-E-S-O-M-E!

Thank you all for a great job.  Keep up the good work.  Let's see how many more we can sell at booth sales - do you think we can reach 2,000?

Cookie Pick-up for Presales

Dana Pigott will be distributing cookies on Mon. & Tues. 2/27 & 2/28 at 3pm in the parking lot at school.  An adult will have to sign a receipt that they received their cookies.  Please RSVP to me or Laura for which day you will be picking up your cookies ASAP, so that Dana has them ready.

Booth Sales - Sign Up

You must email Laura or Heidi ASAP with your preference. There are only 8 slots for the QFC sale. There are 11 slots for the Capers sale. You can sign up for both. We also need 2 more parents for the QFC sale.

****

Date: Friday, March 2nd
Times: Noon-2pm and 2pm-4pm (there are two 2-hour shifts)
Place: Mercer Island QFC at 7823 SE 28th St. That is the QFC closest to I-90.
There are 2 doors and we are allowed to have only 2 girls + 1 parent per door. That is 4 girls per shift. This will be a first come, first served sign-up. If all 11 girls are able to commit to a time slot then I will figure out a way to fit everyone in so that every girl has a chance at booth sales.

****

Date: Sunday, March 11
Time: TBD, tentatively 1pm-3pm
Capers in West Seattle and our troop are putting together an event at the store. We will have space inside the store to sell cookies. We are going with the theme "100 years of Girl Scouting". We are inviting all past, present and future Girl Scouts and encouraging them to bring photos or their sashes. We will serve tea and cookies.

Cookie Pre-Sale Order Forms

Cookie Presale Order Forms will be kept in your possession so that you know who ordered cookies.  HOWEVER, we have to put the order in for those cookies, so I will be handing out a form that needs to be turned in to Dana Pigott by Monday at 3:30.  I will hand out the form at tomorrow's meeting, and emailing it anyone who does not come to the meeting.

The girls need to tally up their orders and fill in the boxes.  As parents, since you are financially responsible for the cookies, you should double check the math.

Hope everyone is having fun selling cookies :)

What we are earning money for...

The money that our troop earns will go towards fieldtrips, craft supplies, and uniform supplies (like badges).

The charity that we are raising money for is Operation Cookie Drop.  This is a way that people that do not want to purchase cookies for themselves can still support your daughter and our troop.  The money donated to operation cookie drop is tax deductible - here is a receipt that you can print and carry with you (make sure your daughter fills out that "Operation Cookie Drop" is the program we have chosen.

What selling Girl Scout Cookies teaches our daughters

Selling Girl Scout Cookies will teach your daughter 5 Essential Skills:
  • Goal setting
  • Decision making
  • Money management
  • People skills
  • Business ethics
Our troop is using this as a learning experience, not a competition.  We will celebrate every box sold, whether it is 1 or 100.

Make sure your daughter fills out the back side of the order form (green section) with her name and her personal goal.  The troop goal is 300 boxes.

Girl Scout Cookie and Nutritition / Allergens

Every box of cookies has an ingredient panel.  You will find information on that panel as to whether the cookies contain peanuts, tree nuts, egg, cow's milk, wheat, soy, fish, or shellfish in bold on a separate line below the list of ingredients.

There are no sugar-free or gluten-free cookies at this time.

All Girl Scout cookies are currently certified Kosher dairy.  (You will see the circle U-D symbol on the box, as well as on the left side of the order form where it describes the cookies.

Girl Scout cookies have a "freeze by" date on the box - cookies may be frozen (good selling point).

Cookie Presales

Today marks the day that Girl Scouts starts Cookie Pre-Sales.  Your daughter is allowed to start selling cookies if you have turned in your Parent Permission form to me or Dana Pigott.  Please read over the pink & blue sheets (from the manila envelope) with your daughter so that you both understand cookie sales.

Here are the general rules that were discussed at the meeting today:

In General:
  1. Cookies are $4 a box.
  2. There are 8 types of cookies.
  3. It is a good idea to photocopy the order form every now and then, just in case it gets misplaced (you don't want to loose all of those sales).
  4. YOU are responsible for all of the money that is collected for your daughter's sales.
  5. We are not being competitive.  Each girl has her own goals.
  6. Presales run from Fri. 1/13 to Sun 1/29

Door-to-Door Sales:

  1. I asked the girls to partner up and spend at least one time period doing door-to-door sales with a buddy.  This makes it more fun and takes away some of the stress.  If your daughter needs a buddy, let me know.
  2. There must be a parent with them at all times.
  3. These are pre-sales, so no cookies are passed out yet.  All the girls have to do is fill-out the form (included in the manila envelope sent home earlier this week).  Cookies will be delivered between Feb. 26-Mar. 4 at which time money should be collected.
  4. If someone would like to donate a box of cookies instead of purchasing one for themselves, they can fill-out the form and put the # of boxes in the "Cookie Boxes Donated" column.  They are $4 each and will go to Operation Cookie Drop (sent to US soldiers all over the world).  They can pay for these right away.
  5. Do NOT go into anyones house.
  6. The parent carries the money.
  7. It is mandatory to wear your uniform.
School Sales (FASPS rules):
  1. The girls are allowed to sell at school to teachers and staff only (not to parents).
  2. We went over a list of rules, the primary one being to respect the person's time and ask only when they are on break.
  3. There will be rejection at school - there are 20+ girl scouts in 4th & 5th grade.  The girls need to remember that it is ok to get a "no" and not to take it personally.
  4. This is a situation where they don't have to wear their uniform to sell.
  5. They will deliver cookies during the same time frame as the door-to-door sales, and collect money at that time.
Phone, Email & Office Sales:
  1. The girls need to be the driving force - they should make the phone calls, write the emails, do the asking at the office.
  2. If your daughter wants to send emails to sell cookies, it should be sent from a parents email address.
  3. If you sell cookies for your daughter at your office, she should be the one to deliver the cookies and collect the money - remind her to wear her uniform.
  4. It is illegal to sell G.S. cookies over the internet.
If you have more questions let me know.  This is a lot of information in a very short period of time.  I will be posting more info asap, like a link to a "receipt" that you can print out for pre-sales, how to handle different responses from customers, and allergy concerns.

COOKIE SALES INFO!

It's GS cookie sales time!  You will receive a manilla envelope on Monday containing cookie information.  It is mandatory, if you daughter wants to sell cookies, that you read & sign the Parent Permission Form and return it to me by Friday, January 13 (our next meeting).

Our troop is going to participate in Presales, Booth Sales, and Operation Cookie Drop:

Presales start Friday Jan. 13. This is the time that the girls go door-to-door selling cookies with a parent chaperone. They can also make phone calls or send emails to people they know. These are presales, and the actual cookies will be delivered in February. Money for the cookies will be collected in February. Each family is responsible for the money until it is turned in to Dana Pigott in February.

Booth Sales start on March 2. We will get our assignments in February.

Operation Cookie Drop is the way people can donate boxes of cookies to military personnel overseas. This is a great way for people to support our girls if they don't want to purchase cookies - we get the credit for the cookie sale, but no boxes of cookies actually change hands.

If you would like more information about the cookies, GS has set up a Little Brownie Bakers website  or you can email Dana at faspsgirlscouts [at] yahoo [dot] com

I will also post more info on this website soon.
