It is of the utmost importance that you respect and honor the flag of the United States of America while you are performing these tasks. Please read the instructions about handling the flag - click here.
There are 3 positions:
1 Color Captain - This girl is the first to walk in and the last to walk out. She also the person saying the commands.
1 Flag Bearer - This girl is the last to walk in and the first to walk out. She is the person who carries the flag and "posts" it.
Color Guard - This is the rest of the troop. You will walk in in 2 straight lines and help by holding the flag as it is unfolded so that it NEVER touches the ground.
Here is how the ceremony goes:
Color Captain walks in and stands to the left of the flag pole.
Color Captain says "Girl Scout Attention"
Color Guard forms 2 straight lines facing Color Captain.
Color Captain says "Color Guard Advance"
Flag Bearer leads the Color Guard in (in 2 straight lines).
Color Captain says "Color Guard Halt" when Flag Bearer gets to the flag pole.
Color Captain says "Color Guard Post Colors"
The first 2 girls in each line help the Flag Bearer unfold the flag and hold it so that it NEVER touches the ground. The Flag Bearer attaches the flag by the grommets to the flag pole and raises the flag.
Color Captain says "Color Guard Salute"
Everyone places their hands over their hearts while looking at the flag.
Color Captain says "Please join us in the Pledge of Allegiance"
Color Captain says "Please join us in the Girl Scout Promise"
Color Captain says "Color Guard Open Ranks"
Color Guard gets back into 2 straight lines facing each other.
Color Captain says "Color Guard Dismissed"
Flag Bearer walks between the 2 lines and leads the Color Guard out, followed by the Color Captain.
